Campaign
We have an immediate goal (Phase I) and a long-term goal (Phase II).
Our immediate goal, Phase I, is to open a home with five beds to address the urgent community need to respond to single men in Delaware County being released from jail, prison or treatment facilities who have nowhere to go. Phase II is to build a dedicated facility.
Phase I: small-scale operations
- Rent a home to accommodate up to five men
- Develop sustainable funding
- Three-year period commencing 2025
- Goal: Raise $400,000 over a 3-year period
- $250,000 collected by May, 2025
Phase II: permanent facility operation
- Proposed site is zoned for a facility and has been offered as a donation
- Custom designed building for up to 16 men
- Serving also as a warming center
- Goal: Raise $2 million over a 3-year period
transition help for homeless men
With respect and compassion, motivated by Gospel values and following the mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, we seek to provide transitional housing to men who are re-entering society from jail, prison or treatment facilities with the goal of rebuilding their life skills to become restored citizens.
Our immediate goal is to open a house with five beds to address the urgent community need to respond to those single men from Delaware County being released from jail, prison or treatment facilities who have nowhere to go.
In the future, our goal is to build a larger facility to house up to 16 men and include a warming center, providing temporary winter emergency house to homeless men.
St. Vincent New Beginnings will provide a transitional housing program built on integrity, dignity, support and mutual respect - a safe place for men to continue to make positive changes in their lives as they transition back into the community. Men may be referred to the program through the staff at the Delaware County Jail. Men must pass a background check and the program will not admit those convicted of violent or sexual offenses.
We aim to help these men by offering more than a safe place to sleep. We will also provide nutritious meals, and access to social services, the legal system, and health services. Staff and volunteers will assist the men in developing job skills as well as relationship and basic life skills. Delaware County Transit passes or access to transportation resources will be provided so those staying at the house can get to and from job interviews, medical appointments, and meetings with local agencies.
Community Support
From city and county officials and planners to the neighbors who will support this project, it will take a community effort to open a transitional home and operate it. We need donations of time, supplies, services and money to support this work.
